Oderen is a French village of 1,215 inhabitants (INSEE, 2023) in Haut-Rhin, Alsace, at the heart of the High Vosges.

The ponds of Oderen
The Maerel, a fishing reserve at the foot of the Maerelberg, and the Gentianes, the village pond below the church: two places for a walk or a spot of fishing, a few minutes from the centre.

A shrine built against the Maerel rock, hollowed out to shelter the statue of the Virgin. The present chapel, consecrated in 1894, stacks two crypts and an upper chapel joined by a monumental staircase.

Built in 1915 along the crest of the Vosges, it passes the Markstein above the village. In winter you may look down on a sea of clouds, with the Alps on the horizon.

The commune reaches up to the resort, shared with Lautenbach between 1,020 and 1,268 m on the Route des Crêtes. Alpine and cross-country skiing in winter; in summer, a 20.5 km climb from the village, ridden by the Tour de France.
